The Uwasu Rainforest Reserve lies in the heart of Amazonian Brazil and is a relatively new conservation initiative. In December 1999, a Brazilian Conservation Trust known as the Amazon Association for the Protection of Areas of High Biodiversity (AAP) purchased 2,000 hectares with the help of CTF (UK). The entire reserve has the potential to be expanded to some 150,000 hectares (361,500 acres)

Lake Uauacu which lies within the reserve is home to two species of spectacular freshwater dolphins – Pink and Flushmina. The area around Lake Uauacu is home to a great number of species of both flora and fauna because of its unique geographical situation where white water flooded forests, black water flooded forests and terra firme forests come together.
